We set out from Pokhara and pass through rustic village settlements with charming terraced farmland and soon pass between the peaks of Machapuchare ( Mt. fishtail ) and Hiunchuli which tower at the entrance of the sanctuary. The Annapurna Sanctuary is a massif of some of the highest snow-capped mountains and includes the grand South face of Annapurna. Two days will be spent exploring the area along with a visit to the Annapurna Base Camp (4130 m / 13, 550 ft).
We trek back an alternative route and is followed by an early morning hike to Poon Hill to witness the awesome sunrise over the Himalayan peaks. This is one of the most popular treks in the Himalayas as you get up close to the peaks and yet, don’t need to go too high.
