Baruntse Peak 7, 129m

Grade: Star
Duration: 40 days
Maximum Altitude: 7129 meters
Departure: Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec

Baruntse is a stunningly beautiful peak located in the Makalu Barun National Park. Situated just east of Everest and in between Everest and Makalu, the surroundings and symmetry have rightfully earned this peak its distinct identity. Though it is not one of those eight-thousander giants, its four peaks located on the same number of ridges enables it to visibly stand out among its more reputed peaks.

Baruntse can be approached through the richly nature-bestowed off the beaten track route. You also have the option of approaching its base camp through the Everest region as it lies northeast of Khumbu Valley. As a matter of fact, this Everest approach takes you through picturesque off the beaten track trails that offer fabulous views and does not feature in any Everest trek itinerary. On choosing this route, you will cross two beautiful passes, namely Zatrawa Pass ( 4600 m ) and Mera La Pass ( 5200 m ).

The standard climbing route of this trek is through the south-eastern ridge. The base camp will be first set up in a beautiful and expansive alpine meadow at the base of the mountain which is at 5200 meters. Next, we set up camp just below the last column which is a wide expanse of snowy flat land at an altitude of 6200 meters. After setting up camp at this stunning location, we further move on to establish another camp at 6500 meters; this is the staging point for the final ascent to the summit. We will encounter some crevasses en route, vertical ice sections and an ice cliff near the summit. However, with state of the art equipment and highly experienced guides provided by Nepal tours, we will help you overcome such hurdles with relative ease. Once on the summit, you can get stunning views of Lhotse, Everest, Cho Oyu, Kanchenjunga, Makalu and various other peaks in the Khumbu Himal section. Absorb yourself in this fabulously spectacular Himalayan panorama and the adventure of a lifetime of successful mountaineering in Nepal and then make your way back to base camp.
