Those who want to establish themselves as seasoned mountaineers to the rest of the world, the ascent on Kanchenjunga will surely test your mettle and resolve. Ranking the third highest mountain in the world, Kanchenjunga is in the easternmost tip of Nepal bordering Sikkim, India. Kanchenjunga is a stunning and challenging mountain among its compatriots with numerous satellites, one of which is an 8 thousand. Named Yalung Kang ( 8420m ), it is regarded by some as a separate peak.
Customarily, climbers choose to follow the north face route to summit Kanchenjunga. Considered safer than other routes, it renders its share of challenges. The initial set of challenges involves fixing ropes for nearly a kilometer from its base camp, normally fixed at 5180 meters. Just when you think you have completed the effort of fixing the ropes and reaching the North Col, another grueling leg of the ascent begins. Proceeding on from the North Col, three high camps will be established in the direction of the summit. Once you are on the summit, you will derive an immense sense of victory and achievement, surrounded by panoramic views from Nepal’s second highest peak.
In the earlier days of the pioneering survey, Mt. Kanchenjunga was acclaimed as the world’s highest peak after Mt. Dhaulagiri. Not long after, the genuine giant, Mt. Everest emerged to be crowned with this honor. However, mountaineers attempted to summit this mountain as early as Everest. The first successful attempt was made by a British team in 1956, only three years after the conquest of Everest. Similar to all mountaineering expeditions in the Himalayas, the trek to and back from the expedition is spectacular and will be etched in your memories forever.
