Makalu Expedition

Grade: Star
Duration: 59 days
Maximum Altitude: 8481 meters
Departure: Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec

Situated to the southeast of Mt. Everest, is Mt. Makalu ( 8481 m ), the world’s fifth highest mountain. Three French teams made the first successful ascents in 1955 and taking on Mt. Makalu is a serious, no-nonsense business of full-fledged mountaineering expedition in Nepal. The steep vertical slopes and sharp-edges ridges of Makalu require highly courageous, trained and skilled, passionate seasoned climbers. Similar to the various mountaineering expeditions in Nepal, the Mt. Makalu Expedition also offers you superb trekking experience in the mountains of Nepal. You will be able to savor local village life and culture up close on your approach and return legs.

Mt. Makalu was discovered by the British Everest Survey team in 1921. Sometime later Sir Edmund Hillary and Eric Shipton even photographed the peak. Though the first attempt was made in 1954, the success came only in 1955. The established route to the summit follows the north face, traversing along its northeastern ridge via the Makalu La Pass. Many expeditions have made successful ascents since then.
